Posterior interosseous artery
By : Sedra MuhammedOrigin:
it arises from the common interosseous artery.
Course:
• Passes backward between the oblique cord and the upper border of interosseous membrane.
• It appears between the borders of the Supinator m. and the abductor pollicis longus m.
• It appears between the borders of the Supinator m. and the abductor pollicis longus m.

• It descends in the back of the forearm between superficial and deep layers of muscles and it distributes branches to them.
• As it lies on the abductor pollicis longus m. it’s accompanied by the posterior interosseous nerve (from the deep branch of radial nerve).
• As it lies on the abductor pollicis longus m. it’s accompanied by the posterior interosseous nerve (from the deep branch of radial nerve).

• At the lower area of the forearm it makes anastomoses with the terminal part of the anterior interosseous artery and join the dorsal carpal arch.

Branches:
• Near its origin it gives the interosseous recurrent artery.

The interosseous recurrent artery: this artery ascends to the space between the lateral epicondyle of the humerus and the olecranon process of the ulna,
it lies on the supinator m. and underneath the anconeus m.

It anastomoses with the Middle collateral artery of the deep brachial artery of the arm,
it provides blood to the elbow joint.
